LED Lighting Advantages and Disadvantages

Presented by Cory Whyers

Part of Sustainapalooza

The presentation will focus on the biggest change the lighting industry may ever face, LED technology. We will begin with a brief overview on what an LED is and why LED technology is superior to other lighting product types. Next, we will transition into a phototopic vs. scototopic conversation. This topic will explain the difference between the qualities of light different light sources emit. Then we will explore the differences between LED technologies because not every LED is made with the same quality or comes from the same place. This is a major issue because the LED market is being flooded with unknown companies, some who use inferior OEM parts and then claim to be equal to superior products. This is a major issue consumers need to understand. Then we will discuss LED technology applications and limitations. LEDs are wonderful but every lighting need cannot be solved using LED technologies, yet. We will have a few new LED products on hand to showcase briefly when we talk about LED applications.
