March 10 Evening Program
Charlotte’s Transition to a Circular Economy
The City of Charlotte, in partnership with Envision Charlotte, has made the commitment to transition to a circular economy.
Amy Aussieker, Executive Director of Envision Charlotte, will explore what this commitment means for Charlotte, including short and long term plans, community participation, and benefits for the city and its citizens.
After a brief introduction to the concept of a Circular Economy, attendees will learn about a study of the city’s waste stream conducted by a firm out of the Netherlands and specific strategies developed as a result for Charlotte to make this transition. Initial projects currently underway such as the Innovation Barn, an organics program, and the Send Me on My Way campaign will be discussed, as well as the complimentary nature of the Circular Economy strategy to other existing initiatives, such as the City SEAP (Strategic Energy Action Plan) which has goals to reduce CO2 to 7.2 tons per person by 2030, will also be touched upon.
