In-Depth Seminar
Passive Building: A Dogtown Case Study

The Passive Building Standard aims to maximize the energy efficiency of the basic building components such as roof, walls, windows, floors and mechanical systems while minimizing the building's energy losses. Unlike other point oriented standards, which are different for commercial and residential,  Passive Building is one universal standard which is purely performance based. Intensive modeling brings out potential issues before ground is broken. Followup testing and monitoring ensures that the project actually achieves it's energy goals.

As a result of the significantly improved insulation and air tightness, the owners experience improved comfort and much better indoor environmental quality. This seminar will explore a case study of the St. Louis area’s first Passive House which is located in Dogtown and was completed in summer 2013. It is currently on track to be certified as the first Zero Net Energy Plus building in Missouri.
